Ivan the Terrible.

Ivan the Terrible, the most famous tsar before Peter the Great and the most brutal ruler of Russia before Stalin, inherited the throne as a three-year-old boy on the death of his father, Vasily III, in 1533. Officially the new tsar became Ivan IV; he was awarded the title of Terrible (in Russian, ???????, "threatening" "inspiring awe or fear") by later historians.
